Berlin - Monday

It is soooo sad that it was our last day.  We packed in soooo much stuff but still there is so much left to see in Berlin.  Monday was going to be our only nice day and we decided that we wanted to go back to Museum Island and take some outside photos.  But of course first we had to pack up the apartment and load everything back into the vehicles, then it was off for a little more sight seeing.  The first time we were there Porchea walked by a bridge that held locks with names and dates.  They say if you put a lock on the bridge you will have love forever.  I believe I will have love forever no matter what any way, but it was a cool thing to do.  So we hunted down a couple of locks and took them with us.

Aren't we cute?!?  I put our anniversary date on it and our nick names for each other.

Here is our lock with some of the other ones on the bridge.  We then threw away the keys into the river.

This is such a BEAUTIFUL building!!!  It is the Berlin Cathedral or called the Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church.  We didn't have time to go inside it, but it was amazing from the outside.  It dates back to 1451.  It was bombed and almost completely destroyed except the spiral.

It looks like it just reaches into the sky - so gorgeous!!!

They have so many statues that are very intricate.

This is the third museum that we could have gone into on museum island on Saturday, we decided that we couldn't do a fourth one.

What I really like about this statue is that it looks like the man is teaching the young child.  Such a great statue out in front of the museum of history.

The boys just chilling together - I love my boys!!!

I am not sure why this statue is on the grounds, but I thought it was a cool statue "Humpty Dumpty"

Such wonderful family time - I love when we get to spend so much time together as a family and really enjoy each other's company.

This is another statue on the grounds of Hercules wrestling a lion - I am not sure which I would rather be  ;-)

There were so many things on random buildings throughout Berlin - here is Medusa above a really great door!

We found out there were two places where the Berlin wall is still standing.  We wanted to go and check it out.

I was thinking when the boys were walking and touching the Berlin wall about how many children couldn't come near it, it was a place that was off limits and dangerous.

Alex wanted to take a picture and I think he did a great job of it!!!

Porchea and I were talking about how when our children saw the big open field of grass all they thought about was running and playing.   Back when the wall was up it was a place of horror and hurt, not joy and laughter.

David standing on one side of the wall - this side had mostly graffiti

On the other side of the wall they had artists do paintings on different parts of the wall.  We all thought this was was really cool.

David liked this one.  I do have to say there were so many cool drawings on the wall.  It was really an emotional trip, thinking about what happened during the war.  I am really glad that we were able to go on this journey and go on it with such great friends to be able to share and process everything.  We can't wait to go on many more trips with them!!  After that we went ate some lunch and headed home.  We were caught in a traffic jam and took us over 45 minutes to get out of Berlin, but after that it was smooth sailing.  We were a little late getting home and the boys to bed, but all ended well.
