Grottes Belgium

On Monday we headed out early from our friend's house to see a few things on the way home.  The first one that we stopped at was Grottes.

When we arrived we had about 45 minutes before the next tour began so we decided to check out the town a little bit.  We found this really cool bridge.

Now I am not sure about this sign, it looks like it contradicts itself.  :-)  I even checked the other sign and they said it was open year round during daylight hours.

Isn't he so handsome?   Love his smile!!!

A look at the town.  It was so quaint!

The river really was picturesque.

My boys just chillin!

We first stopped at the Cave of Remouchamps.  It has been visited by tourists since 1828.

These were the boats that we went in the underground tunnel in.  It is the longest underground navigation in the world.  As you can see no motors or anything, it was all pushed by our guides and we had to duck in many places because it was so low and skinny.  Where these boats were was called the dining hall and was 80 meters long.  It was used as a wine cellar until the 19th century and then a shelter during WWII.

They obviously had color lights on this one, but still looks cool!  It is called the Great Drape 7 meters high and aged hundreds of thousands of years.

this was the path that we took through the walking part of the tour.  Even then we had to duck and watch our heads.

This is called the "White Lady" and is the biggest stalagmite.  It only grows 1 cm per 100 years.

These plants are not natural in the cave, because of the lights they have in the cave, these plants are able to grow.

This room is called the cathedral.  The ceiling is 40 meters high.  The picture here they call the pipe organ.  There is a rock slide behind this picture that is over 600,000 years old.

They call this the Christmas crib because on the bottom of the lip it looks like cradle, it was all naturally made.

This is the only column in the whole river.  It is called the "palm" which is formed by the junction of a stalactite and stalagmite.  It was a really neat tour, the tour guide did it in three languages and was really helpful and friendly.  After that it was time for some lunch.

In Europe pop is so expensive we tell the boys they only get one when we are out and about.  So here is our one :-)

Then we headed into ....

It was one of the most awesome animal, zoo parks we have been to!!  I am going to apologize now, there are quite a few pictures, but these pictures don't even show a quarter of the animals that we saw.

We started out driving through an open range and saw some cool animals, this being one of them.

It was like this zebra was standing guard over the others.  He turned and looked at me just so I could take a picture.  :-)

This one is a little hard to see, but there are elephants, giraffes and a zebra that wandered over there.

And some great rhinos!

I think these were one of David's favorites, the hippos!

Now I am not really sure what animal this is, it was in with the ostriches and llamas.

After that we parked the car and entered the other part of the park.  They had this bird up front to take pictures with.  Michael didn't want to get his picture taken though.

They had such a wonderful park there also!!!  AJ climbing to the top of a high rope area and the boys spinning around and around and having sooo much fun!

I love the smiles on their faces!!!

Then they saw the boat and off they ran!  It was a great break for them to play and get some energy out.

Pure joy!!  Brotherly love!!!  After they played for awhile we decided to look around some more.

This one is for Grandpa, the boys asked me to put it in special for him!  :-)

So many animals and so little time, Michael really like the turtles!

AJ getting eaten by the alligator - OH NO!!!

Michael also getting eaten!!

Then we went to their bird show.  It was pretty cool even though we couldn't understand anything they said because it was in French

The birds were amazing, this one put the puzzle together.

And basketball players

And they could ride bikes along with skateboarding, rope climbing, toy car driving and much more.  It was a very entertaining show!

Then we headed over to the seal show.  Again all in French, but again it was a great show!!  Here this one is showing a handstand.

This was the biggest seal there and he is doing a handstand before he dives off this rock.  After the shows we went on a long walk around to see many more animals that included lions, tigers and bears oh my!  :-)

Had to get a picture of the lemurs - King Julian!

These guys were like the old grandfathers watching over the young ones.  I was wondering if they were watching us while we watched them.

Do you see a resemblance?  I knew there was a reason we always called Michael a monkey!  :-)

Check out that leap!  Too cool!

And so sweet, giving the little one a monkey back ride!

It was nice to see a bald eagle.  It has been a long time since we saw one of these.

This ostrich was getting up close and personal with AJ.

I am not sure what these kangaroos were doing - but must have been relaxing.

She and I had a face to face, I am sure she would have won if I didn't have a cage between us.

I just thought these birds were cool!!  Like I said that wasn't even a quarter of the animals that we saw there.  We spent over 4 1/2 hours there and barely had time to see everything and that was without taking a ton of time at any one spot.  It was a good time had by all!!  After that back home to unpack and get ready for our next adventure.

And of course, what trip to Belgium is a good one without coming home with some Belgium beer!!  It is like a quarter of the price to get it there then it is to by over here, so David stocked up a little.  :-)
