Hiking in Erzenhausen

The kids had two days off for conferences so my friend and I decided to take the kids rock climbing the first day and then on to hiking on Tuesday November 18th.  We first had a little picnic lunch at our friend Sarah's house.  Then off to the woods.  It was really nice because it was right behind her house!

It was a little muddy and slick with all the leaves, but it wasn't raining and not too cold.  AJ checking out a fallen log.

I am not sure what the boys found over there but they sure found it interesting.

Sarah found huge mushroom on our walk, this was the first, but not the last.  We actually saw a lot of them on our walk.  Some bigger than my hand.

Up here they did a lot of mining.  They have many mines and tunnels all over the place.

Look at that balance, my boys are both monkeys and they climbed on everything.  Which was great, I LOVE playing in the woods and so do my boys!!!

Boys and their sticks - AJ tried to pick up the one underneath Michael, but I told him that was a no.  We weren't dragging that one  with us all the way.  :-)  Though I know he would have tried.

Sarah and I thought this was a really interesting log, it fell over and not other bushes are growing on it.

We took a different route than they normally do and we found this little cabin in the woods.  It looks like they have hives and  make some honey here.  It looked deserted now, but well kept.

They also had some under a glass.  You never know what you will find on hikes around here.

It was a beautiful day, the grass was green and it wasn't raining.  You can't ask for much more than that!

I just love the fall colors and the trees - gorgeous!

Here the kids are looking at the entrance to a mining tunnel,

This is how they block it off, with a chair and a gate that we could move if we wanted too.  But alas we had no flashlights and Sarah said it might not be safe.  :-)

There was a little house outside the entrance where you can have a little fire and rest.

In most German towns they have these memorials of people that lived in the town that died in WWII.  This is the first one I saw.  We had a great time on the hike and the kids actually wanted to continue so that was good!!  Though that means we didn't wear them out enough.  ;-)  It was a great way to spend an afternoon exploring!
