Prague day 2

So day 2 started out early because we were walking everywhere and I knew it was going to busy because Easter is Prague's biggest weekend.

Here the boys are outside the bottom of our apartment building.  I really loved the door!

This is what we saw from the door - do you see the clock?  This was early in the morning, completely empty, it was great!!!

We really loved the architecture there, so many different types.  This one had some beautiful paintings on the buildings.

We had to go back to the car to grab a few things and this is what David saw - a Ferrari and had to get a picture with it.  So of course the boys wanted to join in.

The boys in front of the Charles Bridge.  Its construction started in 1357 and not finished until 15th century.  It was originally called the Stone Bridge, but has been called the Charles Bridge since 1870.  It was the only bridge over the river that connected Prague Castle and the city's Old Town.

The boys in front of one of the three bridge towers that protects the bridge.

There are 30 statues on this bridge.   Each one has a a meaning whether it be a saint or some other religious meaning.  This one is from 1709.  There is a Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, with St Bernard and a little angel in front.  On the left shows the attributes of Christ's suffering.

Here you can see the Prague castle in the background as we are crossing the bridge.

The boys coming across messing around.  This is what it was like in the morning around 9:30 am.  When we came back across around 6:30 pm it was packed, wall to wall people all the way across the bridge.  It was crazy.

This is what their sewer covers looked like near the castle.

The boys and I at the other side of the bridge.

So I couldn't help myself, this is an old toilet - gotta love the privacy!

This is the entrance into the Prague Castle which is the official residence and office of the president of the Czech Republic.  It dates back to the 9th century.  The Guinness Book of Records lists Prague Castle as the largest ancient castle in the world.  On March 15, 1939, former Czech President Emil Hacha handed his nation over to the Germans, Adolf Hitler spent a night in the Prague Castle "proudly surveying his new possession."

These guards are a lot like the ones in London, they don't move at all.  Though they get to cheat and have sunglasses on.  :-)

A beautiful fountain in the courtyard of the castle

This is the St Vitus Cathedral.  The boys were so excited to see another church, or maybe not, but they had to suffer their way through.  The building took almost 600 years to complete, starting in 1344.

It had beautiful stained glass windows all around the cathedral and also paintings on the wall.

This was the tombs of Ferdinand I and his wife and were built between 1571 and 1589.

This is the tomb of St John Nepomuk who was a Czech archbishop and martyr.  Its Austrian architect designed this ornate tomb in 1736 and used two tons of silver for it.

These are some of the fanciest pulpits I have ever seen.

It just amazes me the buildings that they were able to build back then with none of the technological advances at all.

You know one of my favorites - the organ.  I would have loved to have heard it play.

The boys finally were able to get someplace where they were enjoying themselves, suits of armor and such.

They couldn't believe how heavy the weapons were back then.  They also looked really menacing.  I would not want to come across someone who could use them.

Michael found a suit of armor just his size.  He thought it was really cool!

This set of armor had such detail on it - so beautiful.

Boys and a cannon - Michael just chillin'

Biggest catapult I have seen!

The boys on the east side of the Cathedral.

Changing of the guards - they were really precise with their marching, pretty impressive.

I just love this picture, AJ with his Dad's hat on crocked walking down the steps and Michael in front of him with his arms out wide and just having so much fun!

lunch time - Michael even tried some Czech food and liked it!!  It was really good beef goulash!

Michael checking out the town.

The town is truly amazing with its beauty!

A view of the Cathedral from a far.

David thought it was so cool to see a Monk out and about.

There was a little playground and the boys wanted their dad to play and I look over the edge and what do I see?  Their father launching them off the teeter totter.

Michael's turn, I didn't get him at his top height like I did for AJ.

At the top of the climb was a bubble man.  They were all over the place wanting donations, but the boys really do enjoy them!

There is a famous mirror maze there so we decided to check it out.  The boys hanging on the chain while we waited in line to go in.

Along with the maze they had funny mirrors.  The boys spent a lot of time in front of them - it was a lot of fun!!

David and the boys decided to take the road less traveled.  I wasn't so sure about it.

But it ran us into this fun little thing, which I almost fell off of a couple of times.

Then down a little farther was another great park.  We figured after the morning of looking at the castle and cathedral they deserved a little fun!

Michael - I sure do love his smile and facial expressions!

We headed back towards the apartment and through the Easter market.  I love the colorful trees!

This gentleman was playing the piano by the strings with no keys.  He was really good!

That night I decided it would be fun to do a medieval dinner and show.  We were put upstairs, but I asked them to either be sat downstairs or we could come back another time.  They found us a spot down stairs.  :-)

They had characters coming around to the tables and chatting with us.  The boys got a lot of attention as you will see.

We were in the dungeon and so a very enclosed space and these guys were good and really  loud.  Michael said a little too loud.  But they were great!

They had many different types of dancers there that were very entertaining.

These guys were hilarious.  It was a comedy sword fight.  I think it was the boys' favorite part of the show.

It was a five course meal and this was course three.  A big piece of pork for the three of us.

Michael digging into his chicken

Then a fortune teller came around and told AJ his fortune.  Luckily it was a good one!!

Michael's turn - his was good also.  The boys got a kick out of it.

They danced with live snakes and

swords and did some amazing things with them and their bodies.

This gentleman came and played a dice game with the boys.  He made a bet with them, if they one 2 out of 3 he would buy them another pop.  Michael won two out of three!

Then it was AJ's turn and he won the first two and didn't even have to play the third one!!  They were so excited!!!

The snake dancer came back and let the boys have the snake on them.  They said this was for their Grandpa because they know how much he LOVES snakes!!!

The comedians are back, but this time with fire and guns.  One of the actors sat by the boys and told them to plug their ears before the guns were shot.  Like I said they got a lot of attention, there were the only kids I could see.

These two ladies danced with fire and they were so flexible.

At the very end this gal came over and danced with Michael.  He wouldn't dance right away, but then danced with her a little bit.  It was so cute!!  The boys said that was the highlight of their day!!  They really enjoyed themselves and so did David and I.  It was so fun!!!

When we walked back to the apartment at 11 pm at night there were a lot of different characters out and about to take pictures with.  This guy went back and forth talking with Michael for awhile.  It was such a great day!  We were all very tired since we walked from 8 AM till 8 PM when we sat down for dinner, long but great!!!
