St Wendel Christmas market

On Sunday December 12th we headed to another Christmas market, St Wendel.  It is only about an hour from us.  We had heard so many wonderful things about it we decided to check it out.

The boys with some of the larger nutcrackers there.  AJ said that he wanted one for his collection.  :-)

They had four or five different nativity scenes up all looked hand made and very different.

Michael found an even bigger nutcracker - he was trying to be sneaky.

There was an amazing artist that did chainsaw work, this was just a couple of his pieces.

AJ was checking out a little snowy village.

This is the Sankt Wendel Basilica.  It was first mentioned in 1180.

Outside the church we saw somebody getting ready, it looked like it was going to include some fire in it.

He started off by messing with people passing by.  It was quite funny, even if we couldn't understand what he was saying.  The reactions were great!

Then the fire show began.  He was pretty good and we enjoyed the show.

Next was on to some yummy Christmas market food!!  I think that is one of my favorite things about them!!!  All the different foods you can try.

When I saw these two looking out at the crowd passing by, I couldn't help but think that is what my parents would do.  They love people watching!

They even had some reindeer there.

They had a little village made out of different dolls.   There were lots of them, and some were very European if you know what I mean and others looked really creepy.

This is the view of the other side of the church.

Michael took a picture of us and me with my gluwhein!

Talking about yummy food, we had to try their churros and dampfknudel.  I am sure most of you know the first, the second is a hot pastry, with a yummy filling with cherry and vanilla sauce on top.

We decided to take a break and eat our yummy food on the steps!

Michael and Daddy and their silly faces.

This pulpit if from the year 1462.  It was donated by Cardinal Nicholas of cues and has three coats of arms on it.

This is the high altar.  It was made in 1896, by the art carpentry Brod Müller from Aachen. The performers was Lambert Piedboeuf. Four stories from the life of legendary are shown of the Saint Wendelin.

This is the way of the cross and has 14 stations, seven on each side.  They were made in 1896 by Brod Muller as well.

This is a better view of the tomb of Saint Wendelin.  It says the "spiral charging", in which the bones of the Saint Wendelinus rest. The two sides show arcades with the 12 Apostles and set the Saint Wendelin in the successor as heralds of the word of Jesus. The tomb was created in the second half of the 15th century the St. Nicholas Brotherhood of local stonemasons. Also Hamilton St. Wallace Katalin and Michel were part of this brotherhood staircase of St. Wallace Katalin. The pilgrims at the pilgrimage from right under the Tomb through steps.

One of my favorite parts of churches, the organ!!!  They made them so beautiful over here!!!

You can see that many people were lighting candles underneath Mary's altar.

You will find one of these in all of the big Christmas markets in Germany.  The boys checking out one of the scenes on the sides.

They do love each other!!!

On our way back by the church we heard something and decided to go check it out.  We saw this band playing on the steps.  It was great music!

I had read about this and couldn't find it, until we headed to the medieval part of the market.

Michael ready to go!!!

And he is off - look at that smile!!!!

AJ not looking to sure about this.

He turned so I couldn't get his face, but he had a great time as well going down!

They had a little petting area next to it.  Though a couple of the animals I think had had enough, so they were hiding at the other end of the pen.

Michael decided that he wanted to make a candle.

It turned out very beautiful!!!  He was so excited!

What is a medieval market without shooting a bow?  It is not, both boys did pretty good!

I heard that there were camels there and we searched for them and we found them!!!!  At 3 pm the camels and the three wise man parade through the market.  We didn't want to stay that late to watch it.

The boys and a few other camels.  This was a wonderful Christmas market!!  The boys even had a great time!!!  That is a first for them and Christmas markets.  It made for a great day all around!!!
